Eliminate the anxiety of time by applying the best time management strategyPosted on 16 May 2011
Time boxing is the most effective time management tool that I've found. It is about to simply fixing a time period to work on a single task or group of tasks. In this note, I'll try to introduce you to the Pomodoro technique, a great, lovely time boxing strategy that I'm applying for almost a year to manage the time.
Time boxing is the most effective time management tool that I know of. It is about to simply fixing a time period to work on a task or group of tasks. Instead of working on a task until it's done, you commit to work on it for a specific amount of time.
Francesco Cirillo has created the Pomodoro Technique® in 1980s, before everyone else used the term "time boxing" for personal time management .
There are five simple basic steps to implement the Pomodoro technique in everyday tasks:
- Choose a task to be accomplished
- Set the Pomodoro to 25 minutes (the Pomodoro is the timer)
- Work on the task until the Pomodoro rings, then put a check on your sheet of paper
- Take a short break (5 minutes is OK)
- Every 4 Pomodoros take a longer break
Luciano Passuello has listed the 15 benefits of time boxing in his popular "15 Time Boxing Strategies to Get Things Done" article, some of them including:
- Make progress on big tasks without worry
- Get rid of Mosquito Tasks!
- Overcome procrastination
- Conquer perfectionism
- Sharpen your focus
- Increase efficiency
- Boost motivation
- Raise time awareness
- Create a work rhythm
- Reward yourself
If you want to apply time boxing for your personal time management, I strongly recommend you to use Pomodoro technique, Pomodoro is much more than that five simple steps and there is also a book written for it.
So, why not you try the Pomodoro technique website yourself? And do not forget to check the products page, where you can download free book, cheatsheet, activity worksheet or even order a special Pomodoro timer.
